Six Essential Grant Programs for Founders and Startups
Forschungszulage
With the Forschungszulage (FZul), up to €10 million per year – and a maximum of €60 million – in internal and external personnel costs and CAPEX can be accredited. Up to €3.5 million per year (35%) is reimbursed tax-free in cash, with a maximum total reimbursement of €15 million.
ZIM
ZIM allows accreditation of up to €1.83 million in internal and external personnel expenses and other eligible costs – with cash reimbursements of up to €896,000.
GRW-Förderung
Through the GRW funding program, businesses and municipalities in economically disadvantaged regions receive support in the form of non-repayable grants for investments. There is no set upper limit on the funding.
Umweltinnovationsprogramm (UIP)
The Environmental Innovation Program (UIP) supports companies in the initial large-scale implementation of innovative environmental technologies. Funding can amount to up to €7.5 million.
Bundesförderung für Energie- und Ressourceneffizienz in der Wirtschaft (EEW)
Through the EEW funding program, companies receive support in the form of grants or low-interest loans for investments in energy and resource efficiency. Funding can amount to up to €20 million.
Gründungszuschuss
The Gründungszuschuss offers vital financial support for founders moving from unemployment to full-time self-employment. It allows founders to receive up to €22,350 net in the form of a non-repayable grant.
